Stitched
The project imagines developing a destination building in the heart of his historic part of Ottawa that partakes in Ottawa’s theatre culture network. The idea here is to provide a setting to welcome traveling and local plays, circus and opera including experimental and innovative theatre genres.
Design Strategy
A combination of spaces that bring a diverse group of people together to celebrate different cultures with food, theatre, and art. This targets multiple demographics of the Byward Market, allowing for a variety of programs for different age groups and cultures. The theatre and the cultural centre stand as two obvious seperate masses, with an interior street that connects them together. The circulation in the middle acts as the stitch between the two programs, connecting everything together, The use of natural materials and plantings intentionally refer to the cultural roots of the land.
